"Your mind will give back exactly what you put into it."

- James Joyce

When we arrived at the small house, our mental picture about the typical Irish architecture, confirmed again. Nestling of other houses left and right there was the James Joyce Centre, where we were super welcomed by the staff. Our tip: For a tourist we think it is absolutely necessary using an audio guide, because then you are more independent visiting the museum on your own. We took time to get to know something special and interesting about the writer James Joyce himself - author of the world-famous novel "Ulysses" - and experienced the exhibition about his work and life spreading out over three floors. next to every showcase or object associating with James Joyce or door you can use the audio guide and listen to the information carefully - surely everything in English! In the rooms you either see utterly emptiness or you walk walk through an almost completely dark part imagine standing in the workroom of James Joyce, like a time travel back to the 20th century. It was exciting walking into such a huge, empty room depicting a living room in times of Joyce, including a magnificent chandelier hanging down the ceiling and a cozy place in the corner. Sometimes you could only take in the steps from yourself and the squeaking of the planks and of course the very tangible silence when you entered it.         A few times a day different tours or lectures take place there. Our private tour took about one and a half hour and we really loved the way Joyce's life was realized vividly for the visitor. All in all we can recommend the short tour to learn more about this infamous man and his complexly done work. At the exit we also took the chance to perpetuate our names in the visitor's book - maybe you will find us there, if you visit the centre as well. And if you find out more Information about James Joyce, visit the Museum in Sandycove - it is definitely worth visiting too.
